We have recently received a partially revised Concept Plan for the exhibition gallery of the planned new museum from Sally Papps of Exhibition Design Build Consultancy Ltd. The changes have been based on consultations held so far with imi, iwi and the broader community and a second round of discussions will be organised once the current covid-19 emergency levels are lifted. In the meantime we are placing some info on the website for your consideration and comment. Click here to see more ......
Ours is a small whole-of-islands community museum that covers both natural and social history of the Chatham Islands. Isolation in the South Pacific Ocean has impacted on all aspects of the history of the Chatham Islands and made them special and very different from mainland
Many plants, and some birds and insects are found nowhere else, distinctly different landforms and habitats are present, and there is a great diversity of marine life. The social history is also quite distinct with Moriori, European, and Maori interacting, and through innovation and adaption developing a unique lifestyle.
